RecyclingBeverage Container Recycling: "THE AMAZING WASTE! Challenge"
Introducing "THE AMAZING WASTE! The 100,000 CRV Beverage Container Collection Challenge" With just 5 CRV beverage containers (plastic bottles, glass bottles and aluminum cans) per week from every student, we can meet the challenge and raise money for our school while helping the environment! JUST 5 PER WEEK!

You can drop your CRV beverage containers in the green recycling bin located on the wall along between the Primary Building and the lunch tables, or in the blue recycling bin located next to the Laurel Canyon gate entrance.

Carpenter Ave PTA has partnered with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps in an effort to encourage recycling in our community. We've seen an increase in the beverage container recycling over the last two years, but this year we want to raise the bar!! Please encourage your child to participate in "THE AMAZING WASTE! The 100,000 Beverage Container Collection Challenge" by creating a place to store your beverage containers (for example a brown bag in the kitchen...) and bringing them to school every week. They can drop them right into the bin before they head off to class. It's a great way to start the conversation about recycling and our environment and our school directly benefits by receiving money for every container. Parents can also help the challenge by bringing beverage containers from work or your gym. We know that many apartment buildings don't offer any recycling - so bring your beverage containers to school! And even if your home has a blue recycling bin - SAVE your beverage containers for "THE AMAZING WASTE Challenge" and raise money for our school!

Reminder: The Carpenter recycling is for CRV beverage containers only!
NO EMPTY FOOD CONTAINER OR OTHER CONTAINERS.
Please recycle these in home recycling bins.

Remember if everyone brings JUST 5 PER WEEK, we can meet our goal - the 100,000 beverage container collection challenge!

We will be tracking our progress all year long and giving you regular updates - please spread the word!

100% fruit juice in containers 46 oz. or more
Products not in liquid or "ready to drink" form
Products not intended for human consumption
Containers not made of aluminum, glass, metal, or plastic

Cell Phone Recycling

Carpenter Ave PTA has partnered with Phoneraiser to recycle old cell phones. Please help out by bringing your old cell phones to the drop box located in the Parent Resource Room (behind the auditorium). It's good for our school (we raise money for our school from the old phones) and it's good for the environment: "Improper disposal of cell phones is a serious threat to our environment. Every cell phone contains no less that 8 hazardous materials including Arsenic, Antimony, Beryllium, Cadmium, Copper, Lead, Nickel and Zinc. Disposing of these phones in a landfill allows these substances to leach into groundwater and soil. Burning them in an incinerator releases chemicals associated with reproductive complications, cancers, and developmental problems especially in children. In 2006 alone, more than 130 million cell phones will be discarded. One cell phone can pollute up to 132,000 liters of water."

Ink Cartridge Recycling
You can bring your old ink cartridges to the drop off area outside the media lab in the primary building.

Reusable Grocery/Tote Bags
Let's stop using plastic and paper bags and start using reusable bags! Now you can purchase your very own Carpenter Avenue Canvas tote bag - look for them at the Spirit Wear table at various events throughout the year (Back To School Night, Open House...).
