Reflections Program

Dear Families of Reflections Participants:

In the hustle and bustle that was the last few weeks of school, we never had the opportunity to return the artwork your children submitted to the PTA's 2008 Reflections Program. Please be assured the artwork will be stored for safekeeping until the school reopens in September. Also, we have made our best efforts to keep the artwork in good condition, though between collecting the work, having it judged, hanging it for display, and taking it back down for storage, there has been some wear and tear on some of the pieces since last December. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Marla Johnson and David Burke

Arts recognition for students

2007–2008 program theme:

“I Can Make a Difference By.. .”

Fourth-grader Marshall Schaffer’s dance choreography entry “I Can Make a Difference by Being a Hero and Recycling” was chosen by the judges as a Reflections winner representing the State of California. Marshall's Dance Choreography, I Can Be a Hero by Recycling, garnered an "Award of Merit" at the National Level! Congratulations!
Link to Etude James Barlett's piece, titled Etude in C-Minor, was awarded an "Award of Merit" at the State Level in recognition of it's creativity, originality and interpretation of the theme.

The Reflections Arts Recognition Program was a smashing success again this year, with more than 250 Carpenter students submitting artwork reflecting the theme ―I Can Make A Difference By …

Students entered in six different categories: Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Musical Composition, Dance Choreography, and Film/Video Production.

"Participation in the Reflections Program is a great way for students to explore and learn about various art forms," said Marla Johnson, co-chair of the Carpenter PTA program.

"Creating art is a valuable learning process that challenges students to use their critical thinking skills as well as their creative talents."

Professional artists judged each anonymous submission (numbers were used so that no names were attached to the art). Carpenter sent 17 winners — including two Kindergarteners — to the District Level. In addition, 79 Carpenter students will receive Outstanding Artistic Achievement Awards.

Congratulations to everyone who entered!
